When the Moscow weather gets hot in summer, a lot of it’s residents tend to rush out of the overheated city to the nature in order to get some fresh air. For some people it gets quite critical because the levels of oxygen in the Moscow’s air can decrease to the unacceptable levels during the hot days. Some people go to their dachas located in the country side, and some depart for their vacations abroad closer to the sea. That’s when the city becomes more quiet during the weekends and the Moscow nightlife gets boring.
In this article I would like to write about Wakeboarding and Wakesurfing in the Moscow area which are great summer activities besides the Moscow night clubs and bars.
I can tell you that these two sports are getting more popular each year here. There were times when you had to go abroad to get a new Wakeboard. Today there are several stores in Moscow that hold a pretty good selection of the wakeboarding gear.
There are several wakeboarding stations around Moscow right now.
A typical wakeboard station has at least 2 boats and all the required gear.
The standard fixed price includes 15 minutes of riding, which is more than enough if you are a beginner. The price varies depending on whether you go there during the week (about 1300Rubles) or during the weekend (about 1500Rubles).
There are two wakeboarding stations that I use all the time.
The first one is called Wake Summer and is located at the Pirogovo Water Reserve at the premises of the Yacht Club called Noviy Bereg (New Shore). This station has a cozy marquee with the complimentary coffee and a very friendly atmosphere thanks to the young team that owns and runs this place. The big advantage of this station is that it’s located outside of Moscow and the air is very fresh here. The Water Reserve itself is surrounded by the nature and lots of trees.
The second station is called Malibu and located at the premises adjacent to the Alie Parusa residential complex in the city, at the bank of the Moscow River. It’s important to note that up the current, the river is clean enough to swim and to perform other water activities, but the further the river gets towards the center of city the more dirty it becomes. Inside the city the water in the Moscow River is extremely dirty.
I use the Malibu wakeboard station when I don’t have enough time to get out of the city to the Pirogovo Water Reserve (it can take up to 2 hours from the city center if the traffic is bad). So Malibu is a nice piece of nature on the outskirts of the city that can save you time.
There are other wakeboard stations around Moscow that I have positioned on the map. Just make sure you call them in advance to reserve your time slot!
